Precautions to Flesh-eating Bacteria

There isn’t a vaccination available right now to prevent necrotizing fasciitis. To lessen your chance of getting bacterial skin infections, such as necrotizing fasciitis:
- Avoid getting any cuts, burns, scratches, or insect bites.
- If you do have a wound of any kind, be sure to wash it with soap and water and then bandage it up until it heals.
- If you have any deep or significant cuts or punctures, see your doctor right away.
- Use an alcohol-based antibacterial hand cleaner or wash your hands with soap and water to keep them clean.
- If you have a skin break, avoid entering swimming pools, hot tubs, or open bodies of water.
