Can ADHD Impact Your Memory?

What Is ADHD?

ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It is a cognitive disorder that is mostly diagnosed during childhood. The disorder affects people differently, but the common effect is that people with ADHD process information differently than people who are neurotypical. The condition makes it difficult for one to remember things, you may feel that you tend to forget things easily and you may find tasks that require using short-term memory more challenging. ADHD is not limited to only your short term memory, it can also impact the way your long term memory functions. Some people may only experience attention problems while some may go through symptoms of hyperactivity [1]. And in some cases one may experience both.

There are other symptoms that can be related to ADHD, for anxiety that causes one to grind their teeth even while sleeping. But still the most common issue is memory problems. The issue arises when they have to manipulate these memories by applying information gathered to tasks. This may be related to working memory.
