What Is Adenocarcinoma and Can It Spread to Other Parts of My Body?

If you have been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma, it means you have a cancerous tumor in the glands that line your organs. This is a type of cancer that affects different parts of the body, such as:
- Breast
- Prostate
- Pancreas
- Esophagus
- Colon/rectum
- Stomach
- Lungs
Adenocarcinoma, like other types of cancer, can spread to other parts of the body. This usually occurs when some cancer cells leave the tumor and travel to other parts of the body through your lymph system or blood stream. An Adenocarcinoma that spreads to other organs of the body is known as invasive adenocarcinoma. The organ cancer cells spread depends on the initial site of the abnormal cells. For example, pancreatic cancer usually metastasizes to the liver first. Adenocarcinoma may also spread to other organs, such as bone marrow, bone, brain, lungs, and other organs.
