Immunotherapy for Small Cell Lung Cancer

What is immunotherapy?

Immunotherapy is a type of treatment that involves using your immune system to locate and fight cancer cells. It can also be referred to as biologic therapy. These drugs are made from natural organisms.

There are several types of immunotherapy drugs, but not all are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) [3] to treat SCLC. The only drug currently approved is immune checkpoint inhibitors.

This type of drug helps your immune system work more effectively to fight cancer cells.

Immunotherapy medications are administered by intravenous injection directly into a vein by a healthcare professional. You’ll be carefully observed during and after treatment for possible side effects or serious reactions.
