Fever or Lower Back Pain on One Side

A fever is a rise in body temperature beyond its normal range. Most fevers develop because of the body’s immune reaction against an infection. Sometimes people experience fevers even when there is no infection in the body to fight.
In some cases, a persistent low-grade fever [6] in the absence of infection is a sign of kidney cancer. This symptom is not sufficient reason to suspect kidney cancer except it appears with other symptoms.
Kidney cancer also causes pain in the lower back [7], near where the kidney is located. While this symptom affects a significant proportion of people with kidney cancer, it usually only begins in very advanced stages of the disease.
The type of pain experienced varies. It may range from a persistent pressure or dull ache to a sudden piercing pain on one side of the lower back or flank.
