Pleurisy – Symptoms And Causes

Symptoms

  • Chest Pain

Chest pain is the most defining symptom [2] of pleurisy. For most people with this condition, the chest pain intensifies when they breathe, sneeze, or cough. This is because these actions agitate the lungs and may worsen the state of the lungs of a person with this condition. The pain may be concentrated in only one side of your chest. The pain may also radiate to your back and shoulders. This pain may disappear if fluid begins to build up in your chest as a result of pleural effusion.

If you have chest pain that intensifies when you breathe, you should see a doctor. Sometimes this symptom is enough to suspect pleurisy. Your doctor will suggest treatments that will cure you of the underlying bacterial or viral cause.
