Bronchitis

Pleuritis may also arise as a result of bronchitis. Bronchitis is an inflammation of the membrane lining the bronchial tubes [10]. The condition may be acute, lasting only a few days. It may also be chronic, lasting several weeks. Chronic bronchitis is more common if you have asthma. Coughing, shortness of breath, and low-grade fever are the most common symptoms.

Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is a highly infectious disease that affects the lungs. The infection is caused by bacteria and is more prevalent in developing and low-income countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) places this infection as one of the top 10 causes of death [11] worldwide.

Being a lung disease, tuberculosis puts you at risk of pleurisy. Although this condition is a less common cause of pleurisy, particularly in the United States, it still sends thousands of Americans [12] to the hospital every year. Some people have tuberculosis bacteria and do not show noticeable symptoms for years before the condition advances into the disease.
