10 Tips for an Effective Colon Cleanse

High Fiber Diet

The macronutrient fiber is one that must be included in the diet. It can be found in complete, nutritious plant foods like grains, nuts, seeds, fruits, vegetables, and more.

The cellulose and fiber found in plants help “bulk” up the extraneous material in the colon. Additionally, they control diarrhea and irregular bowel movements while acting as a prebiotic to increase beneficial microorganisms.

Consume a lot of high-fiber foods[2]to maintain a healthy colon. They can be beneficial for gut microbes as well.

Salt water flush

Salt water flush is another way to clean your colon. This is most recommended for people experiencing constipation and irregularity.

However, keep in mind that there is limited scientific evidence that this method of colon cleansing works.

  • In a 2010 study, [3]it was discovered that drinking lukewarm saline solution at regular intervals while doing yoga poses was more effective at pre-colonoscopy bowel cleansing than a specialized cleansing solution.
  • Another 2018 study[4]found that using a sodium phosphate solution worked well in cleansing the colon. The study was also to evaluate the saline cleanse in preparation of a colonoscopy.[5]

Additionally, there are anecdotal reports online from people who say that salt water flushes were successful for them.

It’s advisable to consult your doctor first if you want to try the saltwater cleanse for yourself. Here are a few pointers on how to proceed when you’re prepared to give it a shot.

Mix two tablespoons of salt with lukewarm water before breakfast. Himalayan salt or sea salt are frequently used.

Drink the water on an empty stomach, and in a short while, you might get the urge to use the bathroom.

Do this in the morning and the evening, and after the cleanse, stay at home and close to the toilet for a while. You might have to visit the bathroom multiple times.
