What’s the Prognosis for People with Prader-Willi Syndrome and How to Prevent Prader-Willi Syndrome?

According to studies, the mean life expectancy for people with Prader-Willi syndrome is around 30 years. Studies also show death in people with PWS may occur as early as 2 months or as late as 67 years. Respiratory complications are the most common causes of death in people with PWS.
Weight control is the most important thing to consider if you have PWS. If you are able to control the amount of weight you gain or lose, and maintain a normal weight, your life expectancy may not be significantly affected.
It is important to note that the gene mutation that is responsible for Prader-Willi syndrome usually happens by chance, and as a result, it is impossible to prevent the syndrome. Also, there are no particular risk factors for this condition. In fact, studies show that PWS affects both male and female equally and has been seen in almost every population across the world.
