Stage C & Stage D
In this stage, your symptoms are now pronounced and doctors have reached a conclusive diagnosis of heart failure. Your symptoms may interfere with your ability to perform daily tasks. These symptoms often include [4]:
- Shortness of breath
- Fatigue
- Swollen feet and abdomen
- Frequent urination at night
- Weakness in the legs
Doctors may prescribe lifestyle changes, but it is not as effective [5]. You may require surgery or other invasive procedures to slow the progression of this condition. The medications prescribed for you depend on the particulars of your condition.
Stage D is the final stage of heart failure. The symptoms do not improve with treatment [6] and they are often severe even when at rest. Treatment at the stage depends. After proper evaluation, doctors may recommend a heart transplant, continuous inotropic infusion, heart surgery, or palliative care.
