Treatment for Herpes
Herpes has no known treatment. Even if the herpes virus does not manifest any symptoms, it can stay in your body for years after infection. Herpes outbreaks can, however, be effectively treated in a variety of ways.
Some outbreaks spontaneously disappear. Without receiving medical attention, a herpes outbreak often goes away after 1 to 2 weeks, especially if you keep the area clean.
A doctor may suggest a number of treatments after diagnosing herpes on the buttocks to help you manage your symptoms and avoid flare-ups in the future.
- Painkillers: Ibuprofen (Advil) [4], an over-the-counter or prescription pain reliever, can help lessen your symptoms of pain, discomfort, or swelling. Blisters and sores may also be treated with prescription topical ointments or creams for discomfort.
- Antiviral drugs: You can regularly take antiviral medications like valacyclovir (Valtrex) or famciclovir (Famvir). When you do experience outbreaks, symptoms are less severe thanks to this suppressive medication, which can be used as needed to prevent outbreaks. Additionally, it lessens the likelihood that you’ll infect sex partners.
