Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil may effectively fight off herpes simplex virus type 1 HSV-1 and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2). The peppermint oil is extracted from the leaves of the plant that is used for various purposes.

Note that peppermint oil can be found in various forms, including essential oils, extracts, and capsules. The oil is used as a treatment for several conditions, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), nausea, and other digestive problems.

Some extensive research has gone into the benefits of peppermint oil on IBS. The condition is a chronic gastrointestinal (GI) problem that can involve diarrhea, constipation, and abdominal pain.

A recent review of 12 trials examined the efficacy of peppermint oil capsules compared to placebo in treating IBS. [5] According to researchers, it was discovered that treatment with peppermint oil improved abdominal pain and other symptoms.

Kanuka Honey

Honey is well-known for helping wounds and skin injuries. According to some research, it was found that Kanuka honey from the Manuka tree in New Zealand is useful in treating cold sores. [6] Generally, Kanuka honey is also beneficial for the treatment of certain skin conditions like rosacea.

There needs to be more research on Kanuka honey. However, it has many health benefits apart from being an effective treatment option for cold sore.

Conclusion

In most cases, cold sores go away on their own in a few weeks. Note that if the cold sores linger for various weeks, it’s essential to consult a doctor. It’s also crucial to consult the doctor when there’s also a feeling of severe pain or sores near the eyes.
