Supplementation

Researches have been conducted to identify herbs and spices containing effective [5] compounds in the treatment of FLD. A recent study showed that supplements made with turmeric, berberine, milk thistle, resveratrol, and omega-3 are effective in reversing fatty liver. Turmeric is an excellent source of antioxidants that help protect the liver from damage. The effective compound in turmeric that works to treat FLD is called curcumin.
Studies have also shown that milk thistle can help improve liver damage caused by FLD. Resveratrol improves the breakdown of blood sugar levels and helps reduce the storage of hepatic fatty acids.
FLD may lead to a myriad of health problems. Fortunately, it can be reversed if diagnosed at an early stage. Lifestyle changes such as a healthy diet, physical activities, and supplementation may reduce hepatic fat composition. Lifestyle changes may also prevent the progression to life-threatening liver disease.
