The Signs and Symptoms of Liver Disease

Fatigue

This symptom is a feeling of extreme tiredness, with low energy and a strong desire to sleep or relax that disrupt normal daily activities. Fatigue is the most common sign reported by patients suffering from this disease. Fatigue occurs as a result of signaling between the affected liver and the brain. Fatigue often accompanies this condition regardless of the cause, whether it is by a virus, excessive alcohol or fat consumption, or genetic factor.

The associated fatigue may be intermittent or constant, it may be mild or debilitating. There is no relationship between how serious liver disease is and how serious the fatigue is. Those with minimal liver disease may experience total tiredness while those with serious liver disease may not feel tired at all, or vice versa.

Pale Stool

Pale stools are clay-colored stools, pale stool happens as a result of a problem in the drainage of the biliary system which causes a lack of bile or blockage in the bile ducts. Bile salts are released into stools by the liver, giving the stools a brown color. A pale stool could be a result of a problem in the digestive tract due to liver disease.

The inability of the digestive system to absorb fats properly can also lead to a change in the color of stool to clay-colored, straw yellow, gray and the stools also appear to be greasy. “acholic” is the medical term used to refer to a light pale stool that results from a lack of bile due to this condition.
