Schizophrenia is a chronic mental or psychiatric disorder, and people with the condition experience distortions from reality. Schizophrenic individuals may experience hallucinations or delusions often. According to a review [1], the condition is said to affect around one percent of the US population.

There are several misconceptions about the disorder. People may think that it involves or creates a split personality. However, schizophrenia and split personality or disassociate identity are both various disorders.

Both men and women can experience schizophrenia. In most cases, men develop the symptoms of the condition in their late teens and early 20s. Women may show signs of the condition in their early 30s or late 20s. Several factors may be the cause of the condition.
