Psoriasis Causes And Triggers

Injury & Other psoriasis triggers

Skin injuries such as cuts, sunburns, surgical wounds, small scratches, and even insect bites or vaccination spots can trigger psoriasis. Called the Koebner response [6], this situation can cause psoriasis to cover the patches of skin that have been injured. Not everyone with psoriasis experiences flares from skin injuries, but it does happen. Even among does who do, not all injuries cause flares. Other common triggers [7] of psoriasis include smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and hormonal changes during puberty or menopause. Certain medications may also trigger psoriasis, such as lithium, antimalarial and anti-inflammatory drugs, and beta-blockers.
