Scalp Psoriasis: Causes, Symptoms, Treatment & More

What Is Scalp Psoriasis?

Psoriasis of the scalp is an autoimmune disorder. It results in raised, discolored plaques that may be dry, itchy, or irritated on your scalp or the skin surrounding your scalp. Your symptoms may be reduced by prescription and over-the-counter medicines.

A long-lasting (chronic) autoimmune condition (caused by your own immune system), scalp psoriasis (sore-eye-uh-sis) causes your skin cells to grow too quickly. It causes thick, discolored skin patches (plaques) to form on your scalp and in the vicinity. These locations could consist of:

  • your hairline
  • one’s forehead
  • a part of your neck’s back
  • your ear’s outer skin
