Gender
Sarcoidosis can happen to both genders; however, studies have shown that it is most common in women. Early adults and middle-aged females top the list of patients suffering from this condition.
Age
Although this condition can occur at any age, it is most common between the ages of 20 to 60 years. A study conducted in 2002 showed that persons in this age bracket are at a significantly high risk of developing sarcoidosis. However, a significant number of people were diagnosed to have developed this condition when over the age of fifty.
Environmental pollution
Some environmental pollutants [5] are known to increase the risk of getting infected with sarcoidosis. Noninfectious chemicals in the environment, such as beryllium, aluminum, and zirconium, can cause lung disease that has similar symptoms and features to sarcoidosis.
