Shingles – Treatments, Possible Complications & Prevention

Possible Complications & Prevention

Herpes Zoster Virus can lead to [8] transverse myelitis, meningoencephalitis, otitis media, ganglioneuritis and bacteria superinfection if left untreated.

To prevent shingles [9], strengthening the immune system is necessary; Healthy lifestyle; regular physical activity; proper nutrition; good rest and sleep. Despite the fact that water procedures in the treatment of herpes zoster are contraindicated, it is the lack of hygiene that provokes the complication of the disease.

Therefore, it is important to:

·        avoid taking hot baths – prefer a warm, short shower;

·        exclude washcloths, cosmetics, and anything that can irritate the skin;

·        only get wet the inflamed areas;

·        use 2 towels – one for healthy skin, the other for infected (change daily).

If the disease progresses, you should limit yourself to wet rubdowns, and do not wet the damaged skin. When the ulcers turn into crusts, you can shower. In any case, the treatment is prescribed individually and exclusively by a doctor.
