Oatmeal Bath or Cold Compress

Due to the anti-inflammatory properties of oatmeal, hives can be treated effectively. However, ensure that you’re not addicted to oatmeal. Generally, oatmeal baths are known to help the skin. As a home remedy, oatmeal is used to treat various conditions like atopic dermatitis, chickenpox, and diaper rash.
According to the U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA), oatmeal baths are effective skin treatments. However, it’s important to note that individuals may develop allergic reactions to the components of oatmeal.
Hives are usually caused or worsened by heat. So, applying a cold compress to hives for some minutes may help in relieving irritation. Generally, a cold compress is known to be effective in lowering the temperature in a specific body part and reducing pain and swelling.
As a home remedy, individuals can use ice, washcloth, water, plastic bag, and towel. Note that you shouldn’t apply ice directly to the skin because it can stick and cause injury. Also, placing ice in a specific area of the skin for an extended period may lead to frostbite.
