Facial Eczema: Types, Treatment, and Prevention

Types of Facial Eczema

Eczema is a skin condition characterized by dryness, itchiness, inflammation, and rough patches. There are five types of facial eczema, they include:

Atopic Dermatitis

This is the most common type of eczema according to the National Eczema Association [1]. Atopic dermatitis can affect people of all ages including children as early as six months old. It’s a chronic condition. So, although symptoms can improve after a few weeks or months, they usually return over the course of a person’s life.

Even though most children outgrow their eczema by the time they reach 4 or 5 years of age, they may always have a tendency for dry, sensitive skin.

There are several symptoms associated with atopic dermatitis, some of which include dry patches and itchiness in the area around the forehead, cheeks, and eyes. Atopic dermatitis does not only affect the face, it can also be seen in other parts of the body such as the inside of the elbows and back of the knees.
