Heat Rash Treatment Options

Antihistamines and Hydrocortisone Cream

Over-the-counter antihistamines, either oral or topical, can help relieve itching that comes with heat rash. In a case where antihistamines are to be given to a child, consult a pharmacist or pediatrician to find out which types are best for children.  [6]

Hydrocortisone cream can also be used to reduce itching and relieve heat rash. It is also available over-the-counter at any pharmacy and can be applied on the heat rash once or twice a day to reduce itching. While hydrocortisone cream can be applied mildly on a baby’s skin and for a short period of time, do not use it while the baby’s diaper is still on. This may cause further irritation of the skin.

Baking Soda and Aloe Vera

Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) can also aid in soothing an itchy skin. Due to its easy availability, it is a great remedy for heat rash and several other skin conditions in which itching is involved. In a lukewarm bath, add 3 to 5 tablespoons of baking soda and soak your affected area in it for 20minutes.

Aloe Vera is also an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory that can soothe the skin, cool it down and also prevent infections. Aloe Vera can also soothe pain and reduce swelling. Apply an aloe Vera gel directly on the heat rash to reduce discomfort.
