Clinical Studies and Trials

Additional therapies have been used to treat affected individuals including erbium: YAG laser [6] resurfacing procedure, in which doctors use a laser to eliminate the damaged cells that make up the distinctive skin lesion known as keratosis follicularis. It will take more investigation to ascertain the erbium: YAG laser’s long-term safety and efficacy in treating keratosis follicularis patients.
For the treatment of keratosis follicularis, some people have undergone photodynamic therapy, which combines the use of a photosensitizer medication with a particular kind of light. Drug administration and absorption by the afflicted cells occur during photodynamic treatment. The medication works by binding with oxygen at a certain wavelength to produce a chemical that kills the affected cells. More research is necessary to determine the long-term safety and effectiveness of photodynamic therapy [7] for individuals with keratosis follicularis.
Controlled surgical scraping (dermabrasion) has also been used to treat some affected individuals.
