What Are the Symptoms of Keratosis Pilaris?

The most noticeable symptom of keratosis pilaris is its appearance. It is usually accompanied by visible bumps on the skin that resemble the skin of a defeathered chicken or goosebumps. This is why it is commonly referred to as “chicken skin”
The bumps on your skin can be found anywhere on your skin where hair follicles are present. They do not appear on the soles of your feet or palms of your hands. Keratosis pilaris commonly appears on the thighs and upper arms. In some cases, it may extend to the lower legs and forearms.
You may experience the following physical features if you have keratosis pilaris:
- Bumps that can appear in different colors depending on skin tone (flesh-colored, white, red, pink, brown, or black)
- Itchy, irritable skin
- Slight pinkness or redness around bumps

- Bumps that feel like sandpaper
