Monkeypox Spreading: What to Know

What Are the Symptoms?

You may experience different symptoms of monkeypox including fever, swollen lymph nodes, skin rash, [1] body aches, [2] headache, [3] and fatigue. [4] Its symptoms are also observed in smallpox but are milder.

You will have 21 days between the beginning of the condition and the manifestation of symptoms, which is the incubation period. In most cases, the condition resolves after 2-4 weeks. If you have an underlying immune disease, you will experience more severe monkeypox. Young children are also more prone to severe conditions. Studies show that the fatality of the condition is between 3 and 6 percent.

You may experience a rash 1 to 4 days after the first symptoms. In most cases, the rash starts on the face and spreads to other parts of the body even the sexual organs. The rash may be confused with chickenpox. It begins as raised spots, which eventually become small blisters filled with fluid. The blisters turn into scabs which later fall off.
