5 Rosacea Rash Treatments

Rosacea rash is a skin condition that causes areas of redness and visible blood vessels to develop on the skin. It may cause small pus-filled bumps or pimples to develop on the skin. It is easy to mistake a rosacea rash for acne or other dermal conditions.

Symptoms of rosacea include facial redness caused by swelling of blood vessels in the skin and red pimples. These pimples may feel warm and tender to the touch. These symptoms tend to appear and disappear occasionally.

It is more common in middle-aged women with light skin. [1] Men who develop the condition tend to have more severe symptoms. If you have a family history of rosacea or smoke, you are at a higher risk of this condition. There is no cure for rosacea, but there are treatments that can help in managing it. These treatments are covered in this article.

Topical Drugs

Your doctor may prescribe creams or gels to apply topically on your rash. [2] This can help reduce the redness and improve your condition. This is usually used to treat mild to moderate cases of rosacea. There are several types of drugs you may use for this. Brimonidine (Mirvaso) is a gel that reduces redness by tightening the blood vessels in the skin. The gel needs to be reapplied frequently because the effect wears off with time. Oxymetazoline (Rhofade) works in the same.

You may use azelaic acid (Azelex, Finacea) to clear bumps and redness from your skin. Ivermectin and metronidazole (Noritate, Metrogel) can also help reduce swelling and redness on the skin. These drugs are not as effective as brimonidine and oxymetazoline at clearing redness from your skin. You may begin to notice improvements after two to six weeks of using azelaic acid and metronidazole. Ivermectin often takes longer to work but its effects last longer than metronidazole.
