Rosacea: Signs and Symptoms

How does rosacea affect your quality of life?

Rosacea can affect other parts of the body except the skin and eyes. Since it is a chronic (long-lasting) skin disease, it can affect a person’s quality of life. You may start to experience difficulties in your marriage, work, and other areas of your life.

Studies show that rosacea may lead to:

  • Feelings of frustration and embarrassment: In studies done by the National Rosacea Society, 41% of people with rosacea were unable to engage in public or social activities because they felt easily embarrassed.
  • Worry: You may worry that your rosacea will get worse or lead to scars. You may also worry about side effects from drugs used to treat rosacea.
  • Anxiety and depression: Living with a skin condition that comes up unexpectedly may make people think you have a drinking problem. This can lead to anxiety and depression.
  • Low self-esteem: Studies done by the National Rosacea Society discovered that almost 70 percent of people living with rosacea may experience low self-confidence and self-esteem.
  • Work-related problems: Studies done by the National Rosacea Society discovered that 70% of people with chronic rosacea may experience disruption in their place of work. 30% of people with the condition may miss their work.
