Angioplasty: Types, Procedure Details, and Recovery

Recovery

After angioplasty, the cardiologist will remove the bandages and catheter. You may experience bruising, soreness, and in some cases, bleeding around the area where catheters entered your body.

You will recover in the hospital for a few hours or overnight before going home. Avoid driving because you may still have sedative drugs in your system. Your doctor will advise you to restrict lifting for about a week. In most cases, you can return to work after a few days. However, your doctor will advise you on how active you should be.

Follow-up visits after angioplasty are very important during treatment. Your doctor will evaluate your recovery, change drugs as they need to, and create an ongoing treatment plan for your cardiovascular health.
