Varicose Vein Stripping (Phlebectomy)

What Happens after Varicose Vein Stripping?

It usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks to completely recover from varicose vein stripping. However, your recovery time will depend on how many veins were stripped and where they were located.

To relieve the pain and reduce discomfort, your doctor will prescribe pain medications. Instructions will also be given to stay off of your feet as much as possible for the first 3 to 4 days after surgery. After the fourth day, you may be able to remove the bandages.

Your doctor will discuss with you about some ways you can enable speedy recovery. One of which includes keeping your legs elevated when you are sitting. You can prop up your legs with pillows. By the fourth week after your surgery, you can probably return to your normal activities.
