What to do

What do you do when you are experiencing depression during your period? You should speak to your doctor about it. Depression can be severe, and it could affect your daily activities. Your doctor can discuss with you the various options of treatment that are available for depression, PMS, and PMDD. He would recommend certain home remedies and medications.
To help your doctor make the right diagnosis and create a treatment plan, you can track symptoms before and during your menstrual period. If possible, keep a journal of your moods and cycle.
Medication
Your doctor may prescribe some medications for you. Hormonal birth control is highly recommended to manage PMS symptoms. They can also prescribe an antidepressant. It is usually not easy to find the right treatment for different women.
For PMDD, the most highly recommended medication is selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) [7]. The medication has proven to be very effective and research has shown that 60-70% of women with PMDD respond to SSRIs.
