HFMD – Signs, Causes & Treatments

How to Take Care of a Child with HFM Disease

Fortunately, HFMD symptoms are often not severe and disappear completely on their own after approximately a week. Maintaining your child’s comfort and hydration is your top priority as a parent of a child with hand, foot, and mouth disease. Keep the fluids coming, promote handwashing, and keep your child out of places where they could potentially spread an infection to others.

Having a sore mouth might make drinking painful. By providing cold drinks like water, milk, or Pedialyte®, you may ensure that your child stays hydrated. Juice should be avoided as the acidity can make your child’s rashes worse. Ice pops are another option you have. Avoid foods that are spicy or acidic, as well as warm beverages, as they might aggravate mouth sores.
