Side effects of laser treatment

The use of laser therapy for melasma may have negative effects, just like with many other cosmetic procedures. Among these negative impacts are:
- allergy to topical anesthetic
- redness or discolouration
- blistering
- stinging
- risk for infection
Some lasers, such as vascular lasers, don’t seem to be able to treat melasma. Consult a specialist before selecting a laser because some could exacerbate melasma by creating hyperpigmentation, especially on Black and dark skin.
