Fats and Oils

Naturally, fats and oils are free of gluten. However, some may contain specific quantities of gluten due to the presence of additives for flavor. Aside from adding additives for taste, they are also included for thickening. Examples of gluten-free fats and oils are coconut oil, avocados, avocado oil, olives, olive oil, vegetable oil, and seed oils, including canola oil and sunflower and sesame oil.

Generally, avocado is known to contain heart-healthy monounsaturated fatty acids. Besides, most of the fat in avocado is Oleic acid, a compound linked to reduced inflammation and proven to have beneficial effects on cancer. Coconut oil also contains healthy fatty acids that may boost heart health. Other oils like vegetable oil play a crucial role in nutrition and diet overall. They are known to help the management of cholesterol. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are found in vegetable oils, which can help lower LDL cholesterol. [3]

Please note that some certain fats and oils should be avoided or double-checked. For example, cooking sprays may have a level of gluten in them. However, some cooking sprays don’t contain gluten. Cooking sprays may also contain diacetyl, which studies have shown that it can increase lung disease risk. Oils with added flavors or spices should also be checked or avoided.
