Saskatoon Berries – Use and Benefits

What Are Saskatoon Berries?

Saskatoon berries, also known as Amelanchier alnifolia, have a similar look to blueberries. However, they are basically more closely linked to the apple family. They have a nutty and sweet almond flavor. Filly mature fruits can be sweeter with a fuller fruit taste. However, they are also more easily damaged and softer. Saskatoon berries are native to North America. They can be found in the wildness all over the continent, from mountain peaks to sea-level areas. The fruits often ripen between late June and early July, but they available during the year if frozen as well. [1]
