Mild and More Common Side Effects

These side effects tend to go away after some time, they include:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea [2]
  • Nausea
  • Indigestion
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Feeling jittery
  • Reduced appetite
  • Low blood sugar

If they get more severe and do not go away, you should immediately talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

More Severe Side Effects

These serious side effects of Byetta are not common, but they do occur. You should immediately call your doctor if you have these side effects. If it is life threatening, you should call 911. These side effects tend to have symptoms of their own. They include:

  • Kidney issues, including kidney failure. Symptoms can include swollen ankles or feet, less urinating, lack of energy and feeling confused.
  • Acute pancreatitis [3] which is the inflammation of the pancreas. You may experience symptoms like nausea, vomiting, severe stomach pain and back pain.
  • Low platelet level. Symptoms of low platelet level include tiredness, blood in one’s urine, bruising or colored spots on your skin, and heavy or long-lasting bleeding.
  • You may also experience severe allergic reaction. As with most drugs some people can have an allergic reaction after taking Byetta, they could be mild or serious. Symptoms of mild allergic reaction include: itchiness, skin rash, and flushing. More severe symptoms include trouble breathing, chest tightness, swelling of different part of the body, and swelling under your tongue, mouth or throat.
