What Potential Negative Effects Could the TDAP Vaccination Have?
The TDAP vaccine is no different from other vaccines in that it carries a small risk of side effects. Thankfully, recorded TDAP side effects are typically minor and go away on their own.
Among the mild to moderate negative effects are:
- Fatigue
- Feeling a little pain, redness, or edema at the injection site
- Headache and body aches
- Nausea [1]
- Diarrhea [2]
- Vomiting
- Swelling of the entire arm where the vaccine was administered
- Fever
Rarely reported severe side effects from the DTAP vaccine include the following:
- A very high fever
- Symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as hives and facial swelling, within minutes to hours of receiving the vaccine
- Severe swelling, pain, or bleeding at the injection site.
