TDAP Vaccine: Everything You Need to Know

Those Who Should Not Receive the TDAP Vaccine

There are some persons who should not receive the TDAP vaccine despite the extremely low chance of a severe adverse reaction, they include:

  • people who have previously experienced a life-threatening allergic reaction to any tetanus, diphtheria, or pertussis vaccine
  • people who have experienced a coma or seizures within seven days of receiving a dose of DTP or DTAP as a child or a dose of TDAP in the past
  • anyone who is younger than seven years old

If you experience seizures or another disease that affects the nervous system, discuss it with your doctor.

Additionally, inform your physician if you have ever had Guillain-Barré syndrome [4] or if you have ever endured excruciating pain or swelling following any prior vaccination.
