Aortic Aneurysm: Symptoms & Treatment

Statins

Statins [8] help reduce the level of cholesterol in your blood vessels. Cholesterol can clog your arteries and block blood flow or increase blood pressure. Any of these things can cause your aneurysm to rupture. Using statins to lower cholesterol can also reduce the risk of other cardiovascular complications unrelated to aneurysms, like coronary artery disease.

There are several statins your doctor may recommend. In most cases, doctors prescribe any of these: simvastatin (FloLipid), atorvastatin (Lipitor), and lovastatin (Altoprev).
