High Cholesterol Levels and High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)

Studies show that high levels of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (bad cholesterol) can accumulate in the coronary arteries and cause narrowing of the vessels. Accumulation of LDL usually occurs due to consumption of foods that contain high levels of unhealthy fat. This may form plaques that cause thinning of blood vessels and obstruct blood flow to the heart.
High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is a medical condition that strains the arteries, making them more likely to sustain injuries. It refers to the amount of pressure with which the heart pumps blood. Excess pressure on the coronary arteries may cause them to become narrow, and reduce the blood flow and oxygen supply to the heart.
