There are five types [6] of psoriatic arthritis;

  • symmetric;
  • asymmetric;
  • psoriatic arthritis with inflammation of the interphalangeal distal joints;
  • spondylosis with damage to the vertebrae;
  • deforming arthritis, affecting small joints with loss of mobility.

Risk factors [7] for psoriatic arthritis include:

  • damage to the skin;
  • exposure to ultraviolet radiation;
  • streptococcal infection;
  • HIV infection;
  • some types of medicines;
  • emotional stress;
  • smoking;
  • alcohol addiction;
  • hormonal changes.
