Structural Abnormalities of the Urinary Tract

Abnormalities in the structure of the urinary tract can be a cause of urinary retention, urine obstruction and this can improve the growth and multiplication of bacteria in the urinary tract causing bladder infections and other types of urinary tract infection.
Functional Abnormalities of the Urinary Tract

Any condition that affects the flow of urine through the urinary tract at any level can lead to bladder infections. An example is vesicoureteral reflux in which urine begins to flow backward from the bladder back into the kidneys. Some abnormalities also affect the complete voiding of urine from the bladder, leading to urine retention, bacteria growth, and infections of the urinary tract including bladder infections.
