Diagnosis of Overactive Bladder

For your doctor to be sure if the symptoms you are experiencing are a result of overactive bladder, several tests will be conducted in order to diagnose the cause of the symptoms you are experiencing. Your doctor may also refer you to a specialist who treats issues with the urinary tract. These doctors are called urologists. [3]
Tests used to diagnose overactive bladder include:
Physical Examination
A physical examination is usually the first test done. Here your doctor will invite you to his office to feel for tenderness around your abdomen and kidneys or check for an enlarged prostate.
Urine Sample (Urinalysis)
You would be instructed to urinate into a container, so they can have a sample of your urine, which will then be tested for any abnormalities, including blood. A urinalysis can help identify a urinary tract infection or other urinary tract problems.
