Diagnosis of Osteoporosis and Osteomalacia

Osteoporosis and osteomalacia have different diagnosis procedures.

Your healthcare provider may order other blood tests to check:

  • Alkaline phosphatase, a compound made by cells responsible for forming bones. People with osteomalacia usually have high levels of the condition.
  • Parathyroid hormone. The blood level of this hormone is increased due to insufficient vitamin D levels. an X-ray may show any small cracks or fractures in bone

You may also need an X-ray to see if there are any minor fractures or cracks in the bone.
