Sciatica is a term that describes back pain from a problem with the sciatic nerve. It’s crucial to note that the sciatic nerve is large, and it runs from the human’s lower back to the back of each leg of the human body. Hence, when there is an injury or pressure on the nerve, it leads to severe pain in the low back. Unfortunately, this pain spreads to the buttocks, leg, and hip. One of the most effective ways to relieve pain from this condition is by performing specific exercises. [1]
Here are the nine sciatica exercises that can help relieve pain:
Knee to the Opposite Shoulder
-
The individual needs to lie on his or back, extend his or her feet upwards, in a flexed position.
-
Continue by bending the right leg and closing up the hands around the knee.
-
The right leg should be pulled across the body to the left shoulder. Please note that the right leg should be in that position for half a minute. Pull the knee just as far as it can go without causing any discomfort. Individuals who perform this should only feel a relieving stretch as opposed to pain.
-
The knee should be pushed, so the leg returns to the starting point.
-
Continue the steps from the first step until three reps are completed and then switch the legs.
