Diagnosis
Fingernail ridges usually appear suddenly or appear with other symptoms. It is important to report to your doctor immediately if you experience any signs of fingernail ridges. Nail injuries do not usually require treatment. However, it would help to contact your doctor immediately if excess or extensive damage is done to your nails.
Diagnosis usually involves your doctor asking you how you got the injury or how long the symptoms have manifested.
To ensure a properly diagnosis, your doctor may also ask:
- About your medical history and any other symptoms they may have.
- If your doctor believes that your fingernail ridges are caused by an underlying condition, they will recommend additional tests and take urine samples or blood.
