Ridges in Fingernails: Types, Causes, and Treatment

Treatment

Ridges in the fingernails are usually an indicator of an underlying condition. Treatment usually focuses on relieving the condition that is causing the nail ridges to appear. For example, if a skin condition like eczema is responsible for the ridges in your fingernails, your dermatologist will try to reduce the symptoms of eczema by prescribing topical treatments.

In doing so, the cells that control the production of fingernail may get healed, and as a result the ridges will eventually disappear.

Prevention

There is no particular way to prevent fingernail ridges from appearing. However, not everyone gets ridges in their fingernails as they age. Your doctor may recommend eating a varied and healthy diet to help provide the necessary fuel required to create strong, healthy nails, and prevent fingernail ridges.
