Signs And Symptoms of Scoliosis

Difficulty Walking

Patients with severe symptoms or complications may gradually develop a loss of balance for standing, sitting, or walking. This symptom is common in adults and is often accompanied by back pain, fatigue, sciatica. Scoliosis can decrease your walking tolerance, lead to loss of height and cause your body frame to lean forward or sideways.

Uneven Waist

An uneven waist when suffering from scoliosis is a result of uneven hips. It can cause your waist to crease because there’s a hip drop on one side and a hip hike on the other side. Contrary to the public assumption, this symptom isn’t caused by carrying heavy loads, weighty backpacks, or bad posture. If a child is diagnosed to have this condition and it seems to be progressing by the minute, your doctor may recommend a brace to be worn regularly. After exceeding other options without yielding any positive results, a surgery, known as spinal fusion may help prevent the condition from worsening.

The curvature of the spine is most likely to start when puberty is approaching and the growth hormones are high. This can be a difficult period for the patient because of all the physical and hormonal changes occurring.
