What Are The Symptoms of Chest Pain?

Achy, Burning, or Stabbing Sensation

Angina can cause a dull ache, burning, or sharp stabbing sensation [2] in the chest area. The different types of pain suggest various underlying causes. If you’re having a heart attack, you will experience severe and crushing pain to the right or left side of the chest. The pain caused by a heart attack can radiate to the arms and shoulders.

GERD or Acid Reflux may cause a burning sensation in the chest which lasts only for a few minutes or over several hours. Angina may be caused by the insufficient blood supply to the heart. This condition can cause sudden pressure in the chest, and the patient may experience discomfort that extends to the neck.

Symptoms of costochondritis may be similar to that of a heart attack, but the discomfort gets worse when performing physical activities. Chest pain due to psychological factors like anxiety has been described as a sharp shooting sensation.
