Common Stages of Lung Cancer

What Is Lung Cancer?

Lung cancer is a condition that occurs in lung tissues or in the lining of the airways. There two types of lung cancers, they include non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC). NSCLC is more common of the two. Over 80 to 85 percent of people with lung cancer have this type.  The two stages of this cancer are grouped using the TNM system which means:

T—the size of the major tumor: if it has reached other parts of the body close to the lungs.

N—nodes: Has the cancer metastasized to neighboring lymph nodes?

M—metastasis: Has the cancer metastasized to distant organs, which include the brain, bones, the other lung or other areas?
