How often does skin cancer occur on darker skin?

Studies show that black people are less prone to skin cancer because their skin is highly protected. According to research, melanoma happens in 1 in 38 Caucasians but 1 in 1000 black people.
It is important to note that black people can still have skin cancer. But it is often observed when it has reached a severe stage. As a result, black people are more prone to death because the condition is diagnosed late.
